Alternate Names: yellowbelly sunfish, redbreast, yellowbreast sunfish, red throat
The redbreast sunfish is considered native to all Atlantic and Gulf slope drainages west to the Apalachicola in Georgia. It is considered introduced to the Tennessee River drainages, but its status in the Coosa River system is uncertain.

In Georgia, occurs in the Tennessee, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chattahoochee, Flint, Ochlockonee, Suwannee, Satilla, St. Marys, Ocmulgee, Oconee, Altamaha, Ogeechee, and Savannah River basins.
